sms verification privacy notice last updated 12 june 2026 this notice explains how detected handles the mobile phone number you provide for multi factor authentication (mfa) it is intentionally limited to that single purpose our broader handling of personal data is covered in our main privacy policy what we collect we collect the mobile phone number you choose to register for account security we do not collect any other information through the sms verification process why we collect it we use your phone number for one purpose only to send you a one time passcode (otp) by sms so you can verify your identity when signing in or completing a sensitive action this protects your account against unauthorised access how we use it your phone number is used solely to generate and deliver verification codes we will never use it for marketing, promotions, or newsletters sell, rent, or share it with third parties for their own purposes use it for any purpose other than sending you verification codes for the account it is registered to sharing with our sms provider to deliver sms messages, we use twilio, a third party messaging provider, acting on our instructions your phone number is shared with twilio only to the extent necessary to send your verification code twilio processes this data under its own privacy and security commitments and does not use your number for its own marketing how long we keep it we keep your phone number for as long as mfa is enabled on your account if you disable mfa or close your account, we delete or anonymise the number in line with our standard retention practices, unless we are required to retain it to meet a legal obligation your rights depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your phone number, and to withdraw consent to sms verification (though doing so may limit your ability to secure your account) to exercise these rights, contact us using the details below message frequency and charges verification messages are sent only when you sign in or perform an action that requires confirmation message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan we do not send recurring or promotional texts you can stop receiving verification messages at any time by choosing a different mfa approach such as google authenticator contact us if you have any questions about how we handle your phone number for verification, please contact us at dataprivacy\@detected app terms & conditions 1\ users should expect to receive messages such as 123456 is your verification code for detected 123456 is your verification code for detected please enter this code to verify your enrollment 2\ you can cancel the sms service at any time just text "stop" to the short code after you send the sms message "stop" to us, we will send you an sms message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed after this, you will no longer receive sms messages from us if you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending sms messages to you again 3\ if you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword help for more assistance, or you can get help directly at support\@detected co mailto\ support\@detected co 4\ carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages 5\ as always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you you will receive 1 message per login and can select to 'remember' this for 30 days if you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider 6\ if you have any questions regarding privacy, please read our privacy policy dataprivacy\@detected app
